Inspired by the complexities and ethical challenges faced by the medical profession, Sutter Health’s Program in Medicine and Human Values (PMHV) applies philosophical inquiry about ethics to the daily work and service of community hospitals. Established at California Pacific Medical Center in 2003, PMHV now provides professional bioethics services to patients and healthcare providers at numerous Sutter Health affiliates, including CPMC, Novato Community Hospital, Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital, Sutter Lakeside Hospital, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Mills Peninsula Medical Center and Sutter Delta Hospital. Our mission is to improve the delivery of quality medical care by ensuring that each person’s life goals and values are respected.
Our team offers consultations to patients, families and medical providers. As a patient, you may want to speak with an ethicist if you need support and guidance to make a tough decision regarding medical treatment. PMHV also provides education to patients and providers, offers expertise in Organizational Ethics and engages in research and scholarship.
